City DRDO Missile Complex to be named after Dr Abdul Kalam

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will rename the prestigious Missile Complex in city as “Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex” at a function to be held at Research Centre Imarat (RCI) on Thursday on the occasion of the 84th Birth Anniversary of Dr Kalam, the “Missile Man”.

Dr Kalam had joined Missile Complex in 1982 and was a part of it for two decades. The Missile Complex comprising Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI) is considered to be the brainchild of Dr Kalam. As founder-director, Dr Kalam conceived and steered RCI as a generator of critical missile technologies.

Parrikar will also inaugurate two advanced R&D facilities of RCI — Outdoor RCS Test Facility “Orange” at Dundigal and Kautilya Advanced Research Centre at RCI, Hyderabad. Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, RCI Director, distinguished scientists and others will be present. (NSS)
