City denizens express anger over proposal to demolish Osmania Hospital

People have expressed strong anger over Telangana government’s decision to demolish old building of Osmania General Hospital. Citizens in general and those struggling for preservation of heritage structures in particular felt that when the tombs of Mah Laqa Bai Chanda and Qutub Shahi Tombs can be renovated and preserved by chemical wash why not Osmania Hospital. Government of Telangana is contemplating over demolishing old building of Osmania Hospital while TRS had promised preservation of heritage structures before coming to power. Osmania hospital is listed among the heritage structures, demolishing it tantamount to damaging the identity of Hyderabad.

INTACH, co-convenor, Telangana State, Anuradha Reddy says this move of the government signifies that Telangana government is planning to destroy all that which is left by Andhrites.

According to Department of Architecture and Museums sources Heritage buildings like Osmania General Hospital, High Court and Moazzam Jahi Market were part of the city landmarks designed by European architects. OGH and High Court were designed along with a 15-acre garden that lined river Musi. The last Nizam had planned this when he visited London and got inspired by the architecture along river Thames in London.
