Chelsea fire manager Mourinho after season meltdown

Johannesburg: Chelsea’s embattled manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked after a disastrous start to the ongoing Premier League season.

The Portuguese manager, who led Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double last season, failed to display his magic again as the defending champions currently stand one point above the relegation zone after nine defeats in 16 games.

Confirming the news, Chelsea stated on their website that the club have parted company with Mourinho by mutual consent, adding that it was it in the best interests of both parties to go their separate ways, Sport24 reported.

Mourinho was previously shown the door by Chelsea in 2007 after a successful three-year stint at the club in which he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Chelsea also thanked Mourinho for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013. (ANI)
