Centre urges AP to showcase its success stories in LED lighting program

To encourage and motivate other States in the country, including major States like Uttar Prades,  Madhya Pradesh and so on, the Union Power Ministry has requested the AP government to showcase its success stories of implementing the LED Lighting program in households and urban local bodies in a time-bound manner, as a part of Energy Efficiency activities which will immensely help the national economy as well as individual benefit by way of reduced electricity bills.

Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), GoI, has requested Ajay Jain, Secretary (Energy, I&I, CRDA) to share the success story of State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), Govt. of AP’s LED Lighting program and ECBC implementation as distinguished speaker with expertise and leadership in implementing in energy efficiency even in building sector, during  ‘International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Buildings’ (ICEEB 2015) on December 17 and 18 to be conducted at New Delhi by premiere organizations UNDP-GEF-BEE (United Nations Development Program-Global Environmental Facility-BEE) wherein 29 countries are expected to participate in the Global Event.

As per the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the CRDA was working out modalities and preparing a comprehensive report for ensuring all the government constructions in the capital city of Amaravati will be green buildings and  energy efficient ones. Every structure coming up in the city will mandatorily follow Energy Conservation Building Code as part of promoting clean and green energy.   The A.P. state occupies a leading position in the country even in implementation of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), a national program taken up by BEE in association with world class organization UNDP for ensuring “Energy Efficiency Improvements in Commercial Buildings”. As per this code, all multiplexes, Hospitals, Hotels etc., and other commercial buildings having a plot area of more than 1000sq. cm or built up area of more than 2000 sq.cm have to incorporate Energy Efficiency from design & construction stages itself with mandatory single star rating in the initial phase, said Ajay Jain.

Dr Ajay Mathur informed Ajay Jain that the Union Ministry of Power has cleared the proposal of BEE for establishment of exclusive ECBC Cell/Wing in A.P. which will be helpful for the state to reach the target of achieving around 40%to50% saving of Energy in building sector. This Cell to be established with 100% funding from BEE & UNDP, will have national level empanelled building Architects to monitor compliance of ECBC rules in the state.  The DG/BEE further informed the Secy./Energy that the MoP has decided to depute Secretary/BEE Sri Sanjay seth to assist/support AP for enhancing energy efficiency activities in building sector in AP particularly in the context of establishing world class capital city Amaravati.      It is a great boon for AP that the British Govt. has agreed in principle to extend support for developing Amaravati city using world class engineering technologies and also making the city to be pollution free by adopting various scientifically researched methods available in the Globe. Construction of Green buildings in the capital city will certainly aid in building a environment friendly city and also attracts many new investments, especially from the building sector across the world said Ajay Jain.    He thanked GoI for taking a decision to establish ECBC cell for supporting & monitoring Energy efficiency activities in huge buildings in Amaravati. (NSS)
