CBSE bans Hijab for AIPMT candidates

New Delhi : Central Board of School Education (CBSE) issued a Notification on July 9 prescribing dress code for the candidates appearing for All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) to be held on 25th July this year.

CBSE asked the candidates to wear light clothes with half sleeves Shirt or T-Shirt or Kurta without big buttons or badge and Trouser/Shalwar etc. They have also asked the candidates to wear open slippers and not shoes.

There is no clear indication for the girls for not wearing Hijab which covers head.
It may be noted that Hijab is the indication of modesty of a girl or woman. Besides Muslims, girls of other religious communities also use scarf on their heads.

This has triggered a new controversy. This condition is being seen as an attempt to curtail religious freedom of a specific religious group under the pretext of eradicating mass copying in the examination halls. The officials of CBSE should know that Hijab does not facilitate in copying in the examination halls. This restriction has been prescribed without any logical reasoning.
