CBI registers FIR against Indrani Mukerjea, two others in Sheena Bora murder case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered a muder case of Sheena Bora against Indrani Mukerjea and two others for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy to kill her, under eight Sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) relating to the alleged murder of Sheena Bora.

The Other Sections slapped on Mukherjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai, and her ex-husband Sanjiv Khanna include Section 328 ( causing hurt by means of poison), Section 201, 202, 203 (destruction of evidence and giving false information), and Section 2 (25) of the Arms Act.

CBI’s’s Special Crime Branch lodged a case in the designated court against Indrani, her former husband and Sanjay Khanna and former driver Shyamvar Pinturam Rai. After Maharashtra Government announced handing over the probe to the agency 10 days back,

The registration of the case indicates that CBI has formally taken over the investigation from Mumbai police. The Mumbai police had arrested the three accused for allegedly conspiring to murder Mukherjea’s daughter Sheena Bora and disposing off her body in a deserted spot in Raigad district.

The Mumbai police investigations had abruptly hindered as the chief Rakesh Maria was shunted out in the midst of the inquiry as the probe reached a crucial stage after Maharashtra government perceived that Mr. Maria was taking personal interest in the case, and interrogating the accused.

The decision was taken by the state government after Maharashtra Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal submitted a status report on the case which had concluded that the case is not limited to murder alone, but there are many questions on financial dealings that remain unanswered.
