Can’t become a moral cop: Govt tells Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Centre told the Supreme Court on Monday that it was not the government’s job to do moral policing.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said people could not be penalised for watching porn in their bedroom.

The Government’s U-turn comes a few days after its shortlived ban on the porn sites, which had caused a national outrage.

It communicated its new stand to the Apex Court when the hearing of a PIL filed by an Indore-based lawyer Kamlesh Vaswani came up.

Vaswani has sought a ban on porn saying they were leading to sexual assaults on women.
