Call centre racket busted; 121 held

Noida: Three fake call centres were sealed in Delhi and Noida and 121 persons detained today in connection with an alleged case of fraud, police said.

Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force sealed one call centre here and two in the national capital, they said.

“One call centre was sealed in Sector 4 in Noida. Three floors were hired by the company at a monthly rent of Rs 2.67 lakh per month. Two other call centres were sealed in Krishna Nagar in Delhi. Their monthly salary and commission bill is estimated to be over Rs 56 lakh,” Additional Superintendent of Police of UPSTF, Triveni Singh here said.

The action was taken by the UP Police based on a complaint lodged in Aligarh.

“At Aligarh complaint of cheating of Rs 54 lakh was lodged. Investigations led us to Delhi and Noida call centres.

A woman was the kingpin of the racket. She was arrested and identified as Pooja Mehra. A total 121 persons have been arrested from these three sites,” Singh said.

“They had opened 11 bank accounts at 11 different banks.

So far Rs 20 crore transanctions have been detected. Further records are being screened. The company had also formed some units in Faridabad and Gurgaon,” Singh said.

“The interrogation has revealed they used to procure the records from insurance companies. Then they used to contact the persons whose claims were pending. Promising approval of claims they used to charge their fees. More than 150 clients details have been found from their computers,” Singh said.
