New Delhi: As BJP legislator O P Sharma made the sexist remarks on AAP MLA Alka Lamba in the Delhi Assembly. A group of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters on Wednesday protested outside his house.
O P Sharma said about Lamba: “Yeh raat bhar ghoomne wali hai(She’s the type who roams around all night).” While a discussion was going on in the Assembly on the capital’s night shelters.
“We want O P Sharma to apologise for his remarks against a woman,”said the AAP worker. All the AAP legislators demanded Sharma’s suspension from the House and raised slogans against Sharma and the BJP, which has three MLAs in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
Speaker Ramniwas Goel suspended the BJP leader until Friday and called his comment as “shameful”.
Swati Maliwal the Delhi Commission for Women chairperson called Sharma a “habitual offender” as he passed similar comment in August by saying Lamba “a drug addict.” An FIR was recommended against Sharma earlier by the commission. Maliwal extended full support from the commission to Lamba.
She also said. “The failure of the police in taking action against Lamba has emboldened him to continue his offensive behaviour,”
