BJP leaders, SHO among 5 booked for corruption in Punjab

Ferozepur: Five persons — a local BJP leader, BJYM chiefs, DSP and SHO — were booked on the charges of alleged corruption, police said today.

A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating) and Prevention of Corruption Act1988 yesterday against local BJP chief Jugraj Singh Katora, local BJYM head Jimmy Sandhu, DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon, SHO Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha and Gurcharan Singh, police said today.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP Chief Kamal Sharma today sought resignations from Katora and Sandhu, who were allegedly in touch with an agent who was trying to get a criminal out of the police custody.

It is alleged that the five persons were allegedly instrumental in helping Amritpal Singh and his father Jasvir Singh, booked earlier under the NDPS Act on June 20, 2015. To get out of police arrest by using their “influence” and “getting” money in exchange of work, police said.

While Congress workers demonstrated for demanded the resignation of Punjab BJP chief on moral grounds claiming Sandhu as his PA, the BJP has backed its leader.
