NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday held Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi ‘personally responsible’ for the ongoing logjam in the Parliament and accused the two of acting in an ‘anti-democratic’ manner.
“Congress is fairly responsible for Logjam in Parliament and their leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are personally responsible because many of the Congress MPs do not subscribe to the idea of continuous disruption. But leaders are forcing them. This is frustration out of their electoral defeat,” BJP leader Prakash Javadekar told ANI.
“But they are behaving irresponsibly. There is no reason why Parliament should stand. It wastes crores of rupees every day. This is public money. People are now agitated and are angry with the Congress because Congress is behaving so irresponsibly that they are not allowing Parliament to function. This is undemocratic act. This is anti-democratic act,” he added.
Javadekar also used this occasion to clarify Congress’ claims that the BJP did the same thing when they were in the opposition.
“Parliament is for functioning, for discussion and for debate. And now they are saying that we did the same thing? No, we demanded JPC. When one Parliament session was washed out that was winter session and we never asked resignation, we asked JPC. And the next session first day they accepted the JPC,” he said.
“So, Congress has no answers, they have no face to go to people and tell why they are not allowing Parliament to function. This is absolutely ridiculous. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are responsible for Parliament logjam and wasting public money. And therefore, we demand that Congress should immediately stop these disruption tactics and come for discussion. If tomorrow there is All Party Meeting, other parties, who also don’t subscribe to Congress’ idea of continuous disruption, must also speak,” he added.
Both the Houses of Parliament have not been able to function with the opposition parties reiterating their demand for External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s resignation over her alleged help to Lalit Modi.
