BJP Blasts TRS Govt for Failure to address Farmer Suicides

Telangana State BJP president G Kishan Reddy today alleged that there was an agriculture crisis in the state, as the TRS government is not addressing the problems of farmers.

Speaking to media here, Kishan Reddy demanded the State government to immediately take measures to mitigate the problems of farmers who were committing suicides unable to bear the debt burden. The government should come forward to help the farmers. Due to the negligent attitude of the TRS government, over 1000 farmers have committed suicide. But the government figures say only 409 have committed suicide. During the last three days, 23 debt ridden farmers have committed suicide in the state.

He said the highest number of farmers have committed suicide in Medak district, the native district of KCR. The BJP would organize “ Rytu Deeksha” in Nizamabad on September 7 and in Hyderabad on September 8, he said.

Demanding a high level committee to go into problems of farmers and study the drought situation, he said the government should evolve a strategy to meet the needs of farmers in drought affected areas.

Referring to postponement of union minister Nitin Gadkari’s visit to Telangana state, Kishan Reddy alleged that the state government is preventing visits of union ministers to the state. He said chief minister KCR has informed the centre that he is busy and unable to accompany the union minister who was to lay the foundation for a highway costing of Rs 1900 crore between Yadadri and Warangal. In view of the state government’s letter, the visit of Gadkari has been postponed and the ceremony was also kept pending. He asked KCR whether it is his strategy in view of the Warangal bye-elections.(NSS)
