Beware! Hyd Airport bars students heading for blacklisted US varsities

Dreams to pursue higher studies abroad turned out to be nightmare for Telugu students. According to reports about 19 students who were supposed to board a plane to the US were sent back from Shamshabad Airport by the immigration authorities on Friday .

They were caught unawares when the immigration authorities refused to allow them to board the plane as the universities they were about to attend were blacklisted. US government has blacklisted two universities in California—Silicon Valley University (SVU) and Northwest Polytechnic University (NPU).

The US government has already sent an advisory to the immigration offices and travel agents but the students were unaware of the development. The students who were on student visa to these universities had to face tough time after the authorities blocked them.

The classes were about to begin on January 4, the students continue to have anxious moments. Some students who had already reached the US were being deported with a penalty of Rs 25,000.

The airline authorities told on Sunday that in earlier instances students who had travelled to the US to take admission in these universities had been deported by the immigration wing of the US. All the 19 students, of whom two were girls, were given a refund of their flight fare.

students who had spent lakhs of rupees are now depressed. However one of the universities, NPU responded on the news reports that students travelling on the NPU I-20 cannot be stopped. They have suggested the students to postpone the travel plan until the issue is resolved. Describing the reports of blacklisting as false.
