New Delhi: Cops rushed to Kerala House near Jantar Mantar here on Monday after they received a call complaining about beef curry being served there.
Keeping in mind the beef-related untoward incidents that have been taking place across the country over the past few weeks, the Delhi Police had every reason to get worried and dispatched its personnel to Kerala House to prevent repeat of any such incident.
The call to the police police control room was made around 4.15 pm.
According to police, the caller, identified as Vishnu Gupta – a Hindu Sena leader – complained that beef was being served in the canteen at the state guest house.
The policemen took no chance and the input was immediately passed on to Parliament Street police station, from where a team was sent to Kerala House to deal with any potential violence, said a police official.
The team remained deployed there for several hours and had conversations with the officials posted there.
While the Kerala House said that it served only buffalo meat at its canteen and had named it “beef”, but still it decided to take the said meat off its menu.
It may be noted that cow meat is banned in the Delhi-NCR region.
“We dealt with the matter with necessary alertness and took our position. The objective was to ensure that law and order is not disrupted,” said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal.
