Beef row: Vishnu Gupta’s advocate dubs his arrest ‘illegal’

New Delhi, Oct. 28 : The lawyer of Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta, who was today detained for allegedly making a false complaint that beef was being served at the Kerala House canteen in Delhi, said that his arrest was illegal and demanded that due process of law must be followed in the case.

“In the morning as I was informed by his friend that they were having breakfast in the Tilak Nagar area, they were not aware of the Kalandra being issued against them. They were having the breakfast in the area when a private car having the number plate of PB08 they came and picked them up without any warrant, without any authority, without informing anyone. It looked more like a kidnapping instead of an arrest or detaining,” advocate Vikas Padora told ANI.

He further said that as far as the procedure is not followed then it is an illegal arrest.

“I could not speak to them yet properly because they have just brought Vishnu Gupta here and they might be interrogating him. So, I am just going to meet the DCP to request him to follow the procedure and produce him before the ACP or the executive magistrate so that we can also follow the law and the next course available to us,” he added.

The development comes a day after a major row erupted when the Delhi Police entered the Kerala House acting on a complaint that beef was allegedly being served there.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy condemned the “raid” as “highly objectionable”. (ANI)
