Beef row: Cong for action against erring officers

Hyderabad, Oct 29 : Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh should initiate against the police officers, who conducted a raid at the Kerala House over reports of beef being served at the canteen there.

“It will be a good gesture on the part of Rajnath Singh to convey his regrets, but action should be taken against erring officers and those who misled the Delhi Police,” he said while responding to posers about the Home Minister likely to express his regrets to Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy over the police action on October 26.

Singh further said writers, literary figures, scientists, artists, people from film industry and others were returning their awards to protest against the murder of MM Kalburgi and growing intolerance in the country.

“They feel the present government of Mr. Modi was trying to polarise [our society] on the basis of religion and those who don’t believe in their ideologies are being threatened,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader also welcomed the arrest of fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan, but added it appears to be more of surrender.

“The government should clarify whether any deal was struck with Chhota Rajan, or whether some concessions had been promised to him,” he added. (ANI)
