Beef row: BJP distances itself from Channabasappa’s ‘beheading’ remark

Bengaluru, Nov. 4 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday dubbed party member SN Channabasappa’s ‘beheading’ remark for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as ‘irresponsible’.

BJP leader S. Prakash said the party does not endorse such a statement.

“The party does not own or endorse Channabasappa’s statement, it was uncalled for and an irresponsible statement,” Prakash told ANI.

“Suitable action will be taken against him (Channabasappa). The state BJP president has asked everyone to stay within limit of BJP culture,” he added.

Channabasappa, who had threatened to behead Siddaramaiah if he consumed beef, was yesterday arrested by the Karnataka Police under Section 153, 353 and 506.

“Let him eat beef and come to Gopi Circle, he will be beheaded,” he had said at a public gathering.

As per reports, the BJP’s Karnataka unit has issued a showcause notice to Channabasappa for his statement.

Siddaramaiah had earlier said no one can stop him from eating beef, pork or any other meat. (ANI)
