Battery-powered bus another initiative of ‘Make in India’ campaign: PM Modi

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the lithium-ion-powered battery bus introduced to ferry Members of Parliament(MPs),will keep a check on rising levels of pollution and is another initiative of his ‘Make in India’ campaign.

“This battery powered bus is another initiative of our make in India campaign. There is no sound and pollution in this bus. We can bring this kind of bus for public transport through our ‘StartupIndia’ and ‘StandupIndia’ campaign,” PM Modi said while flagging off a lithium-ion-powered battery bus here.

Prime Minister Modi also recalled the commitment of nations at COP21 to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

“There was an important initiative taken at Paris conference on climate change recently by the world leaders. It was to work towards innovation so that we can reduce the use of fossil fuels. U.S. , France, India together have taken this initiative of innovation and Bill Gates foundation is also part of this initiative,” he said.

Congratulating Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, he said: “I congratulate Nitin Gadkari for his successful attempt towards making this environment friendly battery powered bus.”

The lithium-ion-powered buses, running on the same battery that is used to propel satellites made by India’s apex space agency ISRO, will ferry Members of Parliament. (ANI)
