Bangladesh sentences two students to death for blogger’s murder

Dhaka : A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced two students to death for the murder of a secular blogger, Rajib Haider, in the first of convictions after a series of such killings.

According to The Daily Star, the court also sentenced militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani to five years in jail and handed various jail terms to five others for murdering Haider in February, 2013.

One of the death row convicts, Redwanul Azad Rana, is absconding.

Both Rana and Faisal Bin Nayem alias Dweep have been fined 10,000 takas each.

Haider was hacked to death on February 15 in 2013 near his house in Mirpur. (ANI)
