Bajrang Dal activist murder case: Police targeting innocent Muslims

Mangaluru: The murder of flower vendor-cum-Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary who was hacked to death in Moodbidri on October 9 has tensed the town.

Well, it is still not known who the attackers were but the police personnel is targeting innocent Muslim youth on pressure from the Sangh Parivar, claimed the Popular Front of India (PFI) Dakshina Kannada district committee.

Soon after the murder, the police detained Ilyas, who was an active social worker in the area, and kept him in detention for nine consecutive days for interrogation, during which he was subjected to atrocities, alleges the organisaton, as per Costal Digest reports.

The organisatsion further added that several other Muslim youth were also brought and detained without reason. They were tormented in the station. At present, the police have taken custody of 8 accused in the murder case.

The deceased Prashant had internal squabble with other activists in the saffron organisation. It was also rumoured that there was an internal rivalry between Rama Sene and Bajrang Dal on the issue of extortion and hafta collection, according to a release issued by the PFI DK district committee.

Because of continuous pressure from BJP state and national leaders and Sangh Parivar, the police targeted only Muslim youths and used them as scapegoats, without making an effort to look into the truth of these allegations.
