Australia set 306-run target for England in first ODI

London: Matthew Wade smacked a brisk half-ton as Australia recovered from a perilous position to eventually post a challenging 306-run target for England in the first Royal London ODI of the five-match series at Southampton on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Joe Burns (44) and David Warner (59) provided the initial thrust as the openers made a solid 76-run opening stand before the dismissal of the former.

Captain Steve Smith made 44 and George Bailey scored 23 as leg-spinner Adil Rashid claimed his second four-wicket haul to restrict the tourists to 193-6 in the 37th over.

Shane Watson and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed cheaply for their respective scores of six and 15.

Subsequently, wicketkeeper-batsman Wade (71 not out) found an able ally in Mitchell Marsh (40 not out) as the duo scored an unbeaten 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket. (ANI)
