Aspiring Gram Pradhan candidate shot dead in UP

Muzaffarnagar: A 35-year-old aspiring candidate for Gram Pradhan elections here was shot dead today at Kurthal village today allegedly over old enmity, police said.

Bijender had gone to a temple this morning when he was shot dead by the assailants under Budhana police station in the district, SP (Rural) Alok Piryedershi said, adding old enmity was stated to be the reason behind the murder.

The victim had declared to contest for the Gram Pradhan post in the upcoming elections, the filing of nomination for which will start soon.

Security has been tightened in the village and extra police force has been deployed in the village as precautionary measure. Hunt is on to nab the accused, the SP said.
