ASI plans to stall construction work at Bhagyalaxmi temple

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which is the custodian of Charminar, plans to approach the local police to stall construction work taken up at Bhagyalaxmi temple abutting Charminar. According to officials, a show cause notice was served to the management of the temple after noticing some construction work around the temple some time ago. A copy of the notice was also forwarded to local police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

As per the rules stipulated by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010 controlled construction is allowed within 300 metres and construction of any kind is prohibited within 100 metres around the protected monument.

An ASI official told that some construction work was noticed related to cellar and a floor, hence a notice was served to the temple management in the month of August. However no response has been received by the temple administration so far.

It has been learnt that no permissions were sought for any sort of construction at unauthorized temple and the corporation was also asked not to accord any approvals without the required no objection certificate (NOC) from competent authority.

The officials are planning to approach the police again to get the work stopped.
