Arunachal govt assures land to set up NDRF unit headquarter

Itanagar, Aug 22: The Arunachal Pradesh government here has assured providing suitable land to National Disaster Response Force to set up a unit headquarters of the NDRF in the state.

In a meeting with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at his office yesterday NDRF Commandant S K Sastri and Deputy Commandant Manohar Singh placed the need for space for stationing a unit of the NDRF in the vicinity of the state capital, an official communique informed here today.

The meeting was also attended by home minister Tanga Byaling, Civil Aviation Minister Thangwang Wangham, parliamentary secretaries Likha Saaya and Bamang Felix, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi and other officers including the Papum Pare deputy commissioner, the communique said.

On request of the NDRF Commandant, Tuki assured to allow stationing of an NDRF unit at Doimukh in the space allotted to SSB under the Union Home Ministry for the time till a permanent site is finalised and allotted to NDRF near Hollongi.

The said space is yet to be occupied by SSB and is lying vacant.

According to the NDRF official as both NDRF and SSB are under the Union Home Ministry all clearances have been already obtained for stationing a NDRF unit at the said space.

Admitting the importance of presence of NDRF personnel in the state, especially in the vicinity of the state capital prone to sudden natural calamities, the Chief Minister directed concerned officials to facilitate smooth stationing of the unit temporarily at Doimukh.

The NDRF Commandant said that a unit is all set to establish base near the state capital and is just waiting for a green signal from the state government, the communique added.
