Apple launches iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S plus with 3D Touch technology

Technology giant Apple has launched two new iPhones which its CEO Tim Cook claimed “are the most advanced smartphones in the world”.

Alongside the new device launches, the company launched its 3D Touch technology on Wednesday, which operates on the pressure and duration of the touch of the consumer changing the user experience on smartphones making it more convenient.

Earlier reports citied that the company would launch a similar technology called “Force Technology”.

Top executives from the company took to the stage to showcase the use of 3D Touch and its advantages while using emails, the camera app and maps among several other apps.

The phones come with the 64-bit A9 processor which was faster and saves more power. “It is 70 percent faster than our A8 chip. Graphics would be 90 percent faster on the device,” a top executive said.

The phones would also come with the M9 motion co-processor embedded to give more accurate readings about the user’s daily activity. It will also come with a second-generation fingerprint scanner or touch ID which was two times faster than the earlier one, he said.

The new phones come with an enhanced 12-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus. “In order to kill noise in pictures due to increase in pixels, we have also introduced the deep-trench isolation technology which does not allow colours to escape to other pixels keeping the photo more accurate in terms of colour, contrast and hue,” the Apple executive added.

The rear camera can also take 4K resolution videos, which can capture more details in eight million pixels.

The front camera would be a five-megapixel unit. “This unit will use a embedded display chip to light up the display three times to help users to take selfies in low light. We call this technology the retina flash,” he explained.

The new phones would be available in 12 countries on September 25. The new iOS nine would also go live on September 16. The iPhone 6S will start at a price of $199 for a 16GB variant.

The iPhone 6S Plus’ 16GB variant will come at a price of $299. Apple also announced an iPhone upgrade programme which will allow users to choose a new iPhone every year at a price of $32 a month. It also launched a monthly iCloud scheme.
