AP, Telangana gear up to bid adieu to Lord Ganesha

Hyderabad: Elaborate arrangements have been made in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the immersion of Ganesha idols which mark the conclusion of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations in the two states.

Thousands of idols of Lord Vinayaka, in various sizes and styles, would be immersed in the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad tomorrow.

The immersion is expected to be a long-drawn affair as it may conclude only by midnight tomorrow.

The major attraction in Hyderabad is the over 50-ft tall idol erected at Khairatabad with a reported 6,000 kg laddu placed in the hands of the Lord.

Similarly, tall idols have been installed at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh too.

Despite a campaign taken up by government agencies and others for promotion of worshipping clay Ganesha, idols of made of Plaster of Paris are still popular.

Civic agencies and police have made massive arrangements like imposing traffic restrictions and using cranes to ensure that the mega event passes smoothly.
