With the government aiming to set up control room to monitor the sale and transportation of sand, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday suggested that every depot have uninterrupted power supply. “This can be done by harnessing solar energy,” the Chief Minister said in a meeting on sand mining today at the Secretariat.
Given that the sale of sand though DWCRA women has picked up, the Chief Minister suggested setting up a control room that will monitor sand movement activity at each depot, along with meeting the demand and supply needs.
With GPS and geo-tagging systems in place, the control room can direct respective depots to transport sand to the consumer. This will lower the loading and unloading charges at depots, and handling price.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the government earned a net revenue of Rs 421 crore from the sale of 1.05 crore cubic meters through sand transportation until now. Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) CEO S. Solomon Arokiaraj added that the government will earn additional revenue of Rs. 150 crore by October, which marks the completion of one-year of handing over the sand mining sale and contracts to DWCRA groups.
