AP Cabinet to clear University Bill in next meeting

Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao on Monday informed that the new University Bill will be cleared by the State Cabinet in its next meeting.

The minister made the announcement while addressing a meeting, held at Sri Venkateshwara University, with Vice-Chancellors of different universities of the State. He directed the VCs to take steps to prevent ragging in the premises of their universities.

Speaking to media persons later, the minister condemned the recent incident of suicide by a girl student, Ritikeshwari, in Acharya Nagarjuna University due to ragging. He said that the State Government has constituted a committee to probe into the incident. He said the caste and religious politics would be completely discourages in all the educational institutions. If required, he said, Police Out-Posts will be set up in all the universities.

The minister also informed that besides installing CCTV cameras in university premises, the bio-metric ID cards would be issued to all students. Wifi services will also be introduced in all varsities.

Ganta also informed that IIT would be launched in Tirupati on August 5. About 3900 primary schools will be merged with high schools. (INN)
