AP banned 9 Alcohol brands, wine shops closed

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday issued orders to ban 9 brands of liquor temporarily in the state.

The AP state move comes after five persons at Swarna Bar in Vijayawada died due to cheap liquor consumption yesterday, 14 others are severely injured and are admitted to the nearby hospital.

The government also ordered the closure of wine shops for a day throughout AP. The cheap liquor being sold in Swarna Bar located near Krishnaya lanka in Vijayawada.

The bar is being run in the buiding of M Hotel, located in the out skirts of the Vijayawada city.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the hospital and consoled the families of the dead and those undergoing treatment. Speaking to the media, Chandrababu stated that the action will be taken against those responsible for incident.

The brands that were banned include Original Choice batch number 120, Royal Stag 26, Officer’s Choice, DSP, AAB, McDowel’s whisky and brandy, Bagpiper. A thorough checking is going on to find spurious liquor in wine shops and bars across the state.
