Amazon India signs MOU with government to speed up SME growth

Bengaluru : E-commerce major Amazon has signed an agreement with the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) aimed at encouraging SMEs to grow business profitably online.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Amazon.in and NIESBUD will work towards spreading awareness on the enormous potential of e-commerce for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and empower them to leverage numerous opportunities that India’s growing digital economy offers, the company said in a release.

The initiative aims at transforming the lives of many entrepreneurs and the way India sells, it added.

As part of the MoU, Amazon Seller Services Private Ltd (ASSPL) and NIESBUD will jointly undertake the exercise of training SMEs on understanding the e-commerce industry in India and its vast potential for growth.

The two will also provide SMEs with necessary online selling and marketing training as well as faculty support, Amazon said.

In addition, training infrastructure, including classrooms, and hand-holding and guiding services will be provided, it added.

“Till date, Amazon.in has impacted over 100,000 sellers across the country to leverage the digital economy to grow and scale profitably and we hope that through this initiative, we are able to positively impact thousands of more sellers across India,” Amazon India Director – Seller Services Gopal Pillai said.
