All-women awareness ‘Pinkathon’ run kicks off in Delhi

New Delhi: Thousands of women took part in a rally here on Sunday to create awareness about women’s health issues. The 10-kilometre run called the ‘Pinkathon’ drew enthusiastic response.

The run aims to exhort women to adopt fitter lifestyle and to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths amongst women worldwide.

“I am here to run and to spread message to the patients of breast cancer that cancer is no more a disease like before. It’s curable and if detected during early stages, one can be cured of cancer if one avails of timely treatment,” said a participant.

The third edition of the ‘Pinkathon’ was organised by the United Sister’s Foundation. Women police personnel also cane in large numbers to take part in the event.

“In today’s Pinkathon, around 100 lady police constables and 100 lady sub-inspectors of Delhi police are taking part because this is an initiative for creating awareness about women’s health issues,” said police official Nana Sambandan who came to cheer his colleagues.

The 3K pink ribbon walk for Breast Cancer is a popular category in the event as the level of participation varies from 10 year old girls to women in their seventies. (ANI)
