Alair encounter: violent killing, custodial death

Alair encounter was not an encounter but a violent killing and custodial death. Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan expressed these views while addressing a press conference here in Hyderabad. He told that judiciary was not taking the matter seriously and Muslim youth were not getting justice. He felt that non-seriousness of judiciary would convey wrong message to Muslims. Prashant Bhushan was addressing a press conference conducted by Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee. He asserted that case should be booked under section 302 against the officials responsible for the death of 5 youth.

Expressing surprise over not handing over the post mortem report to relatives of deceased Mr. Bhushan declared that noting was more grave than this. Lamenting upon the rejection of plea for independent post mortem by Hyderabad High Court he said Viqar had submitted written compliant before the judge a day before his death, despite that rejecting the plea for independent post mortem is deplorable. He expressed concern over rising incidents of harassment to Muslim youth. There are a number of Muslim youth who were kept under trial for 10 to 15 years and later acquitted.

Declaring the encounter of 5 Muslim youth as nefarious he claimed that stringent action against the officers involved in the act was inevitable. Present on the occasion were Mr. Mohammed Ahmed (Viqar’s father), Ishrat Banu (W/O Dr. Haneef) and others.
