Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister meets Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Hekmat Karzai today called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during which various bilateral issues came up for discussion.

Yesterday, Karzai had led the Afghan delegation in the Indo-Afghan foreign office consultations during which key bilateral and regional issues including the security situation in the war-torn country were deliberated upon.

The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar.

“Deepening Afghan engagement. After Foreign Office Consultations, Dy FM Hekmat Karzai calls on the External Affairs Minister,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

The consultations came close on the heels of a visit by Afghan National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar last week during which he had held discussions with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as well as his counterpart Ajit Doval.

India has invested USD two billion in aid and reconstruction in Afghanistan and trained scores of Afghan officers.

During Atmar’s visit, the two countries had discussed ways and means to enhance cooperation to strengthen Afghanistan’s defence capability for safeguarding its security and combating all forms of terrorism.
