Abusers in social media want to get noticed, says Kher

Kolkata: Actor Anupam Kher said those who heap abuses on personalities like him in social media only show their mentality and want to be noticed.

“Of my five six million followers I have blocked two people as they had given ‘galis’. (But) if you are given galis by someone it shows his mentality. I only look at the good side,” Kher told reporters here.

“By being good you are not noticed. By being horrible and abusive you are,” he commented on those turning abusive on social network.

The Saaransh actor, who had in recent past criticised Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and led a tolerance protest in the national capital, did not elaborate more on him being abused in the social media.

He was talking to reporters after delivering a motivational lecture ‘Bringing out the best in you’ at the INFOCOM 2015, an annual technology conference, tonight.

On the issue of intolerance, Kher, who had played the lead role in Jahnu Barua film, ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ inspired by Bapu’s life, said, “I think whatever I know of my country we are the most tolerant nation in the world.”

“I had been born here, and grew up in this country. Never heard so much the word intolerance as I am hearing these days.

Intolerance in comparison to what time?,” he wondered.

“I am proud of my Prime Minister who works hard and taken India to a global high. It motivates me,” he said referring to Narendra Modi.

Coming down heavily on those raising the intolerance issue, the 60-year-old said, “They don’t want to talk about development. The country is making progress and these things.”

Kher had last month led a march from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan and later lashed out at Aamir Khan for saying that he is alarmed by the rising intolerance in India.

He had also slammed those who have returned their awards in protest against alleged intolerance.

Kher in the lecture at the INFOCOM meet dwelt on his humble background as a small town boy and said, “If I can draw you, so many educated people at this lecture to listen to me for being what I am, you also can. Have belief in yourself.
