AAP Govt clears Jan Lok Pal Bill

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Government in Delhi cleared the Jan Lokpal Bill here on Wednesday.

The bill, which was approved by the Delhi Cabinet, can now be tabled in the next session of the assembly, scheduled to begin next week.

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia confirmed this on his twitter handle.

“The historic Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill is passed by Delhi Cabinet. Congrats to all who have spent days and nights for it,” he tweeted.

Jan Lokpal Bill, which aims to bring down corruption in the national capital, was one of the major promises of the AAP during the election campaigns.

Describing the approval of the bill as ‘historic’, the AAP said that promise made to people has been fulfilled.

“The historic Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill is passed by Delhi Cabinet. Congrats to all who have spent days and nights for it,” the AAP twitter handle said.

“The demand for Lokpal that echoed across India birthed Aam Aadmi Party. We promised a political path to it and today the dreams of lakhs of people who came out on the streets since 2011 have been fulfilled today by the AAP Government,” it said in another tweet.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resigned in February 2014 from his post during his 49-day stint as CM citing reasons over deadlock on the Jan Lokpal Bill. (ANI)
