Jammu/Srinagar: The Pakistani Army resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on Wednesday on the line of control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region.

“The Pakistani Army resorted to unprovoked firing at our positions in Krishna Ghati sector of the LoC in Poonch district,” defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS in Jammu.

Meanwhile, a BSF sub-inspector and a constable of the 119 Battalion were injured in Pakistan firing on LoC in Tootmar Gali in Nowgam sector of the LoC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a senior police officer told IANS in Srinagar.

“Pakistan firing started at 11.15 pm yesterday and continued till 1 am today. They used heavy machine guns and automatics to target our positions,” Mehta said vis-a-vis the Pakistani firing on LoC in Poonch district.

“Our troops have effectively and appropriately responded to Pakistan ceasefire violation using same calibre weapons. No casualty or damage has been reported on our side,” he added.

Pakistan ceasefire violation has come on a day the director general of BSF and director general of Pakistan Rangers are meeting to discuss the ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
