80 Indian films for kids to go on global voyage

New Delhi: From “Karamati Coat”, “Dhoomketu” to “Kabhi Pass Kabhi Fail” — a bevy of Indian children’s films are all set to go on a foreign tour soon. An Indian company has acquired a collection of 80 children film titles from Children’s Film Society, India (CFSI) for global distribution.

Ultra Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd has acquired the titles, which also include cinematic gems like “The Goal”, “ Chota Sipahi”, “Bal Shivaji”, “Dak Ghar”, “Ek Tukra Chaand”, “Lukka Chuppi” and “Rikki Tikki Tavi”, read a statement.

With the aim to give a new lease of life to the genre, the company will revive the magic of these renowned films again in India and overseas.

Sushil Kumar Agrawal, CEO of the company, said: “A children film’s subject generally is just so universal in nature that it can be followed by audiences from all over the world very easily. The dubbing and subtitling of these films will make it easier for them to connect and also relate with the Indian culture and ethos shown in these films strongly.”

He added that the genre has been neglected around the globe for long, and “with this initiative we are just trying to reach the Indian films made on these subjects as far and wide as possible”.

The titles will be distributed in the home video, direct-to-home, cable TV and broadband, terrestrial, digital and mobile and other emerging media platforms in India and abroad.

To bridge the language gap, the films will be dubbed and subtitled in local global languages. Taking the idea forward, Ultra also plans to produce, distribute and import a number of children’s films globally.

Currently, the company is in discussions with various media companies for global distribution of these films.
