8-yr-old boy dies of suspected dengue in Punjab

Phagwara: An eight-year-old boy in Manohar Nagar area here has died of suspected dengue, taking the death toll in similar cases in the district to six.

A third-standard student at a private school here, Bablu had high fever two days ago, his father Janardhan Yadav said.

The child was being treated for suspected dengue but died yesterday, said doctors who were treating him.

Earlier, five women had died of suspected dengue during the last month in Phagwara.

Meanwhile, Phagwara Corporation Mayor Arun Khosla visited the bereaved family to condole the demise of the boy.

He said that fogging was being done in the city on war- footing, claiming that the vector-borne disease was fully under control.

Surveillance Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Manohar Lal today said that awareness pamphlets were being distributed in large number.

The SMO has also urged public to report to civil hospital regarding any suspected dengue case.

“We treat the patient free of cost and all the facilities are available in the hospital”, he said.
