70% vehicles not insured in Telangana

Hyderabad: A report of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority shows that 55% vehicles at all India level and 70% vehicles in Telangana State ply without insurance. In Cyberabad area, 60% vehicles did not get their insurance renewed. In Greater Hyderabad area more than 40 lakh vehicles are without insurance. Department of Transport is organizing awareness program for the benefit of vehicle owners. SMS would be sent to the vehicle owners whose phone numbers are available. This system has been introduced Mr. Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Commissioner of Transport Department. Data of vehicle owners and the list of Insurance companies are being collected. Despite all these efforts, if there is no positive response from the vehicle owners, fines would be imposed under Motor Vehicles Act. 194 (2) which would be Rs. 600 to Rs. 4000.
