7 killed in airstrike in Yemen

Sanaa: At least seven persons, five civilians and two Houthi rebels, were killed in an airstrike allegedly carried out by the Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition against a checkpoint near the Yemeni capital, witnesses said on Wednesday.

An old man living in a house about 50 meters from a checkpoint targeted in the attack said that the bombing destroyed the windows of his house, but none of his relatives were injured, Efe news reported.

“The explosion terrified us, we were not able to get up to leave the house and flee,” said the man, who identified himself as Ali al-Masjedi.

The attack targeted a Houthi checkpoint about 10 km west of Sanaa as a taxi carrying five civilians was passing.

The bombardment also caused a nearby gas station and tanker to catch fire, injuring a driver.

The Arab coalition supports Yemeni President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi and targets Houthi rebels and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
