7 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

The Sri Lankan navy on Friday night arrested Seven Indian fishermen on charges of trespassing into the territorial waters of the island nation.

Their boat has also been confiscated from Nagapattinam fishermen and taken to Kangesanthurai naval base in Sri Lanka. The fishermen are being interrogated by Sri Lankan officials.

U Arulanandam of the Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen said the apprehended fishermen would be handed over to the fisheries department of the island nation.

With the latest arrests, the number Indian fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan navy in the last 10 days has touched 35.
