NEW DELHI: A senior official at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research was arrested after the mother of a five-year-old girl alleged that he touched the child inappropriately at a cultural function in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area, police said today.
The incident was reported Thursday evening when the official was among the spectators at a cultural function organised at a Durga Puja pandal near Vidyut Vihar locality.
While the official was sitting in the second row, the girl and her mother were sitting in the first, a police official said.
“The girl started crying suddenly and when her mother asked her what had happened, she whispered something. The woman then turned back and alleged that the official had touched her daughter inappropriately,” he said.
The matter was reported to the police and the official was later arrested, the police official said.
