15-year-old allegedly gang raped, all 4 accused arrested

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh): A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by four youths who have been arrested in Chattri area near here.

Though the incident occurred on November 23, it came to light when parents of the victim lodged a complaint at the Shahpur police station yesterday, police said.

“All four accused were arrested late Saturday,” Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Hitesh Lakhanpal told reporters today.

The victim had gone to attend a ‘jagrata’ (religious function) in the village where a youth, who was known to the girl, told her that her friend was waiting outside.

He then took the victim to a secluded place where three others joined him and took turns to allegedly rape the minor.

“Two of the accused, Kanhaiya Ram (24) and Sahil Kumar(23) Sanu, hail from the same village as the victim.

“The two others – Karan Gir (20) and Nitish Singh (18) – belong to Pathankot and Amritsar respectively,” the DSP said.

Police have registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 34 (common intention)of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Further investigation is on.
