The 14-year-old tribal girl’s parents at Raman Pahad village in Kothakota mandal of Mahbubnagar District of Telangana scheduled her marriage with her brother-in-law Nirmal Naik, 28, father of two.

After the death of Naik’s wife he planned to marry her younger sister and convinced her parents also.

Kothakota Inspector Kishan said the Revenue and Police officials averted the marriage which was going to held at around 9.30 a.m at the minor’s house as soon they came to know about the marriage through villagers.

He said. “Their idea was the minor would take care of the children born to her elder sister. On learning this through villagers, we rushed to the girl’s village.”

The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) officials counselled the minor’s parents who are agricultural labourers.
