10-year-old Tareq becomes youngest-ever swimmer at World C’ships

London, Aug 07 :10-year-old Alzain Tareq raised many eyebrows on Friday when she took part in the 50m butterfly heats to become the youngest swimmer to compete at a World Championship.

Tareq of Bahrain was the slowest of all 64 swimmers as she finished last in 41.13 seconds in Kazan.

Tareq said that she had been a bit nervous walking out there, adding that she had never swum in front of so many spectators, the BBC reported.

She expressed that her goal was to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and insisted that she wanted to learn the techniques and how her competitors swim. (ANI)
