10-year-old girl shot at in Delhi

New Delhi: A 10-year-old girl was shot in the leg here, allegedly by two bikers who tried to snatch her mother’s belongings, police said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when the victim, Moni, along with her mother and brother were on their way in an auto-rickshaw to catch a bus from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) to their village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, police said on Monday.

They were stopped by two bikers near East Delhi Mall in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar area at around 5 p.m. on Sunday and then in an attempt to snatch their belongings fired at them.

“Two men, on a bike, came from behind and forced the auto-rickshaw to stop. They tried to snatch our belongings (bags and suitcase). When we protested, one of them fired at us,” Moni’s mother Manju told police in a statement.

The bullet hit Moni in her left leg. She was admitted to a nearby hospital. Her condition is now stated to be “out of danger”, police said.

“The alleged shooters have not been found yet.”
