Karachi, Apr 25 (ANI): Pakistani fast bowler Wahab Riaz has said that he believed that the national team will not be haunted by the spot-fixing scandal when they go to England for the ICC Champions Trophy in June. Riaz was part of the Pakistan squad that was hit by the spot-fixing scandal in 2010 after the fourth Test at Lords, which led to the suspension followed by bans of then captain Salman Butt and pace bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, The Nation reports.

”Banned” Butt ready for PCB`s anti-corruption rehab programme

Islamabad, Apr 25 (ANI): Banned Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has said that he has offered to join an anti-corruption rehabilitation programme following the dismissal of his appeal against a spot-fixing ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2011 banned Butt for 10 years, with five suspended on the condition that he commits no further offences and takes part in a programme of anti-corruption education, The Daily Times reports.

Pak players may risk career by joining politics, says PCB expert

An expert close to Pakistan Cricket Board”s (PCB) think tank has advised cricketers to stay away from active politics, saying that a player may risk his career by mixing politics with sports. This came on the heels of speculations that celebrated cricketer Shahid Afridi has affiliated himself with one of the major political parties of Pakistan ahead of the general elections in the country on May 11, although Afridi is yet to confirm the development, the Express Tribune reports.

Olympic broze medallist and top seed Saina Nehwal advanced to the second round of the women’s singles event at the $200,000 India Open Super Series badminton here Wednesday.

The World No.2 beat Belaetrix Manuputi of Indonesia 21-12, 21-15 in 33 minutes at the Siri Fort Sports Complex to improve her career head-to-head to 2-0. She had earlier beaten the Indonesian at the All England Open in March.
