City schools to be provided with drinking water and sewerage line

Hyderabad, December 3: On the onset of the year 2011, 164 city government schools will be provided with drinking water and sewerage line facility as their New Year gift. This facility was made possible following great efforts and representations.

Most of the government schools of the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad lack basic necessities. Though previously the complaint has been made several times but it seems the district administration felt pity now and has decided to provide basic necessities to the government schools.

State Govt. employees get 8.56 pc DA hike

Hyderabad, December 3: In a move to please all his employees, teachers and workers chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided at his first cabinet meeting to sanction a 8.56 percent hike in dearness allowance (DA) to state government employees which will be implemented from the month of July 2010. The arrears payable from July 1 to November 30 will be credited into the employees’ general provident fund accounts. The increase in terms of cash will be paid from December salary payable in January.

Dissidence in Andhra Ministry Over Portfolios Ends

Hyderabad, December 03: The dissidence in N Kiran Kumar Reddy ministry in Andhra Pradesh over allocation of portfolios ended today with Congress high command succeeding in mollifying the sulking ministers.

Nine of the 10 ministers who were unhappy with the portfolios given to them attended the cabinet meeting held here this evening but V Vasant Kumar, who sent his resignation to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy late last night, stayed away.

BJP offers alliance with YS Jagan

Hyderabad, December 03: Trying to fish in muddy waters, Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) is in a move to make an alliance with former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who is launching his new political party in Andhra Pradesh.

Sources reported that BJP leaders have contacted YS Jagan, son of former Chief Minister late YS Rajashekhara Reddy, and extended their offer of tie-up to form a new political block in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier on Thursday, Dec 2, YS Jagan had announced his plan of launching the new party. He also invited other Congress leaders to join his party.

No Jagan hand in AP rebellion, feels Cong

New Delhi/Hyderabad, December 02: Congress today saw no hand of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the rebellion in newly constituted Andhra Pradesh ministry over the allocation of portfolios and expressed confidence that it will soon be over.

“It’s not some kind of a Jagan plot. It could be a bargain tactic to take advantage of the tough situation,” a senior party leader, who declined to be identified, said.

Union Minister M Veerappa Moily, talking to the media separately, dismissed talks of crisis in state.

“There is no crisis” he said.

Jagan to float his party soon

Hyderabad, December 02: Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who recently resigned from the Congress and as MP, will soon launch his new party, his close aide announced Thursday.

Jagan, as the son of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is popularly known, was holding consultations with his close followers to float a new political party, the aide said.

Ambati Rambabu, who acts as spokesman for Jagan, told reporters outside Jagan’s residence that Jagan himself would make the announcement. “He will definitely form a new party soon but I can’t say when,” he said.

AP Cabinet crisis: Moily & Azad to meet rebels

Vivekananda meets Jagan, heckled

Hyderabad, December 02: Newly sworn in Andhra Pradesh minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy met his nephew Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Thursday, two days after they reportedly came to blows, and said they would “be together henceforth”. But he was heckled by the latter’s supporters while returning from the meeting.

The two met at Jagan’s home soon after the latter returned from their native Kadapa district.

Vivekananda, the younger brother of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, denied reports in a section of media that he and Jagan came to blows during a meeting at Kadapa Tuesday night.

Hyderabad, December 02: Former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy lastnight said there is “no truth” in reports that he and his uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy had an altercation during a meeting in native Kadapa district.

Few voices of dissent after Andhra cabinet formation

Hyderabad, December 01: A few legislators of the ruling Congress appear to be unhappy with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for not inducting them into his cabinet but only one of them has made his unhappiness public.

K. Rambhupal Reddy, a legislator from Kurnool district, has alleged that only those who indulge in appeasement were included in the cabinet. “The chief minister should clarify why I have not been included,” he told reporters and declared he would bring this “injustice” to the knowledge of party’s central leadership.

Hyderabad, December 01: The political split in the family of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was complete today when his brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy was inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, which saw new Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy dropping five ministers of the previous government.

Andhra Chief Minister Kiran Kumar assumes office

Hyderabad, December 01: A week after taking oath, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy assumed office Wednesday and the first file he signed was related to a welfare scheme.

At 9.52 a.m., the time fixed by his astrologers, he entered his chief ministerial chamber at the state secretariat.

In an indication that he was committed to the welfare schemes launched by late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the first file he signed was related to the release of funds for Arogyasri, a scheme under which the poor are provided free medical treatment in corporate hospitals.

Auto drivers weigh KCR in coins

Hyderabad, December 1: Auto drivers belonging to the twin cities Tuesday weighed President Telangana Rashtriya Samithi K Chander Shekhar Rao in coins and donated the coins weighing equal to his weight for Telangana Maha Garjana.

YSR’s brother among 39 Andhra ministers sworn in

Hyderabad, December 01: Late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy was among the 39 ministers inducted into the state cabinet Wednesday.

Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy not only dropped three loyalists of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, the late Y.S.Rajasekara Reddy’s rebel son who is popularly known as Jagan, but also inducted a few others who were openly targeting him and demanding probe into alleged corruption during YSR’s six-year rule.

Shankar Rao gets threatening calls

Hyderabad, December 1: Musheerabad police has registered a case following a threatening call received by the member of Assembly cantonment Mr. Shankar Rao from unknown persons.

It is said that a person calling from mobile phone number 7411238889 abused Mr Shankar Rao and later threatened him to kill; following which Mr. Shankar Rao lodged a complaint with Musheerabad police in this connection.

Musheerabad police has started investigations on the basis of the phone number by which the call has been received.

YSR’s brother pledges loyalty to Congress

Hyderabad, December 01: Late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy Tuesday said he would remain in the Congress and denied his nephew Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s allegation that the party was trying to divide the family.

After a brief meeting with Jagan, as Rajasekhara Reddy’s son is popularly known, Vivekananda told reporters that he would follow in the footsteps of his elder brother by remaining in the Congress till his last breath.

Eminent Muslim scholar Omar Khalidi dies in US

Hyderabad, December 01: Eminent Muslim scholar and writer Omar Khalidi died in a train accident in Boston Monday, according to his family sources here.

He was 57 and survived by his wife and a daughter.

Hyderabad-born Khalidi, who articulated voice of Indian Muslims during many crises, was Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture librarian at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

K V P’s security cut down

Hyderabad, December 1: State government has cut down Rajya Sabha member Dr. VP Ramchander Rao’s security. Mr Rao had resigned two days ago on the instruction of new chief minister Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy as the security advisor of the government.

According to high placed sources till now 5 to 7 personal security officers were present in the security of V P Ramchander Rao but after the government’s decision the cover has been down sized to only two body guards.

AP Singh appointed as CBI’s new director

Hyderabad, December 1: Central government has appointed A P Singh as the new director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday.

AP Singh belongs to IPS batch of 1974 and had been serving as special director in the agency for the past one year.

Mr. A P Singh from Jharkhand cadre held the post of superintendent of police and DIG in CBI during 1987 to 1995. He succeeded Ashwani Kumar after the later retired from the post.

It has been told that Mr. A P Sing completed his post graduation studies from Stephen college of Delhi University.

‘Jagan may launch new party soon’

Kadapa (AP), November 30: Former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy may launch a new political party in a month or two and he has no plans to destabilise the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh, sources close to him claimed here today.

The sources said Jagan’s target is the next assembly elections, scheduled to be held in 2014, and that he would make all efforts and arrangements for achieving the goal.

Jagan does not have any plans to destabilise the Congress government in the state as he feels that it was formed by his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, they said.

City police executes plan against rowdy elements

Hyderabad, November 30: City police has eventually initiated measures to rein in rowdy elements and city police commissioner has claimed that rowdy elements will be held back with the implementation of the proposed plan. He said this during a press conference yesterday.

City police commissioner AK Khan says that police has identified 11 such gangs who are involved in anti social activities. List of the chiefs of 11 such gangs has been prepared and shortly they will be kicked out of the city.

He said the new plan will work as an iron trap for the anti social elements.
